The ECITI team and its incubated enterprises participated in the 11th annual Eastern Cape ICT Summit which was held at the East London International Convention Centre (ELICC) from 4th-5th November 2015. A total of 490 delegates attended the two-day event themed “Focus on eHealth, Digital Life and Internet of Things”.
The summit, spearheaded by Imbizo Events, was initiated with the aim of creating a tool for business development opportunities through matchmaking sessions as well as establishing a platform to discuss topical ICT issues, trends and innovative ideas.
This year’s summit was officiated by the Deputy Minister of the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services, Hon Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams. Delegates were also treated to informative presentations by the MEC of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform Hon Mlibo Qhoboshiyane, MTN Business Chief Executive Officer Alpheus Mangale, and many more industry speakers.
In line with this year’s theme, presentations and discussions focused on improving ICT health management systems which include the improvement of ICT infrastructure in hospitals, patient and doctor electronic documents. Other topics touched on innovation, social transformation in ICT, digital skills, ICT codes and methods on how to avoid vendor mistakes in government.
This year’s summit was supported by Vodacom, the South African State Information Technology Agency, Sentech, Dimension Data and Internet Solutions. Several organisations showcased their offering at the summit exhibition including ECITI, Metro Computing Services, Clearline, Aloe Solutions, Xerox, EOH and Ikamva National eSkills Institute.
