Executive Manager’s byte

Organisational aspirations are critical to the survival and advancement of any organisation as these provide a compass to navigate future operations. As such, through the Eastern Cape Information Technology Initiative’s (ECITI) strategic plan, the organisation has bold ambitions of making an impact within the Eastern Cape socio-economic landscape.

Consequently, last year ECITI setup stakeholder engagement platforms that put information communication technologies and film development at the fore of the provincial development agenda and dialogue. This included convening the Eastern Cape Film Forum intended to provide emerging local filmmakers with a platform to showcase their films and participate in skills development programmes; as well as the Chris Hani Information & Communication Technology Forum aimed a forging collaborative solutions for promoting the use if ICTs as an enabler in creating wealth and delivering services to the people of the Eastern Cape.

As we move ahead in the new financial year, we are steadfast in keeping up this momentum after five successful workshops and screenings held last. We have already scheduled a line-up of film screenings in different parts of the province for the rest of the year and target areas include Grahamstown, Mt Ayliff, Port Elizabeth, Alice, Aliwal North, East London and Port St Johns (see Upcoming Events). In April and May, film screenings were held in Mdanstane, Queenstown and Mthatha and attended by emerging filmmakers and local industry players.

On the other hand, the Chris Hani ICT Forum has been useful to gain an understanding of the local industry/market and its inherent developmental challenges. As such, the forum is working towards hosting sessions that will focus on and encourage ICT innovation and identify uncover ways to overcome challenges faced by ICT enterprises in the region.

With that being said, the 2016/17 financial year presents a new canvas to plot our performance in the coming months and we are more than ready to implement a range of programmes that will accelerate ICT and film development in the Eastern Cape region. We looking forward to connecting and engaging with you during the year head.

Yours truly,
