Lumko Mtimde - Director at ECITI

Lumko is a national media expert and the chief executive officer of the Media Development and Diversity Agency. He is a Board member of Austria’s World Summit Awards (WSA), a global initiative aimed at selecting and promoting the world’s best e-content, and is part of the United Nations High Level Panel of Advisors of the Global Alliance for ICT and Development.

A former Councillor of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) and the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, he also served as the chief director for broadcasting policy at the national Department of Communications. He was on the advisory boards of Unitech and the University of South Africa’s Communication Sciences, and was also a board member of the Institute of Advancement of Journalism.

He is the founding member of the first community radio in South Africa, Bush Radio, and the National Community Radio Forum. He was also the Vice President of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) and President of AMARC Africa.
